Accrington v Lowerhouse
Accrington were crowned Lancashire League Champions for the first time since 1975. Skipper David Ormerod received the coveted trophy from Lancashire League President Jack Houldsworth after Accrington's match against Lowerhouse at Thorneyholme Road was abandoned without play. The Accrington skipper said: "I'm just ecstatic. The weather doesn't affect anything for our team in one jot. I'm just really pleased for everyone at the club and for the team who have been fantastic and supported me all season. I'm chuffed to bits. It's not just one thing that has caused the transformation there are several factors. The boys have trained hard through the winter and we've prepared well for this season. The introduction of Paul Carroll and the return of Graham Lloyd was fantastic, but we have played as a unit. Everyone has contributed and that is the key. At key moments in crunch games someone has come to the party." In winning the trophy Accrington became only the fourth club to win the championship the season after finishing bottom of the table after Haslingden (1900), Rawtenstall (1904) and Rishton (1948). |
