A half century for Roy Silva |
Accrington made 95-4 at Haslingden after the home side had posted 144-8 from 44 overs. Steve Dearden hit 46, John Pemberton 18 and Mike Ingham an unbeaten season's best 25 in the home sides innings. Paul Carroll picked up a club best 5-56 from 17 overs and skipper David Ormerod passed 70 wickets for the season during his spell of 3-47. Accrington again lost early wickets to Dearden and the lively Jack Sudworth but Graeme Sneddon (18) and professional Roy Silva steadied the innings with a 3rd wicket stand of 35. Rain forced the players from the field with Accrington on 74-3. They came back and bowled 3 more overs after 7.30pm as Silva (55 not out) completed his half century but they lost Zahir Afzal (11) to finish on 95-4.
Rawtenstall lost at Church but picked up 5 bonus points to narrow the gap to 17 points. This means that Accrington need 8 points from the remaining two matches to win the Lancashire League for the first time since 1975.
