An unbroken 7th wicket stand of 76 between Graham Lloyd and Simon Hanson rescued Accrington from crashing to an embarrassing defeat by Bacup at Thorneyholme Road. The league leaders were 3-3 and 29-5 at one stage after dismissing Bacup for 119. Lloyd and Hanson came together at 48-6 and they steered Accrington to a 4 wicket win with Lloyd finishing unbeaten on 67 from 80 balls with six fours and a six. His younger partner faced 55 balls and hit two boundaries in a vital match wining stand which keeps Accrington on top of the table. Home professional Roy Silva had earlier taken 4-37 and Paul Carroll 2-3 to reduce Bacup to 35-6. A 7th wicket stand of 79 between Peter Killelea (33) and John Chapman (38) rescued the innings but not the match. Chris Harris (3-42) and Joe McCluskie (3-33) picked up 3 wickets apiece as the home sides innings followed the same pattern, but the experience of Lloyd saw Accrington home. Accrington now lead second placed Rawtenstall by 21 ponts after 17 matches. Lloyd's innings took him passed 600 runs for the season and he is now the league's leading amateur run scorer with 646. David Ormerod is the leading amateur bowler with 49 wickets.
