Burnley's hopes of holding on to their title ended with a 67 run defeat at Accrington. The home side put last weeks batting disaster at Turf Moor behind them to register their highest score at Thorneyholme Road this season. Professional Nishit Shetty top scored with 60 in his sides 186-6. The Indian hit seven boundaries from the 74 balls that he faced. Stuart Crabtree, promoted to open the innings, batted well for 27 and did Matt Wilson (26), Toby Bulcock (27) and Brian Heywood (16 not out) as Burnley's five man attack failed to pick up the vital bowling points. Bharat Tripathi picked up 3-64 in an extended 16 over spell and James Capstick took 2-30. Skipper David Ormerod then did the business with the ball, taking 5-49, including the vital wickets of Jon Clare (11), Vishal Tripathi (1), Chris Burton (0), Andy McLeod (14) and Michael Kelly (4). Shetty also picked up 3-35 and with professional Jon Harvey (5) and Steve Brunt (47) also run out, Accrington registered their second home success in six days after going 12 months without a home victory prior to last weekend. The win also takes Accrington off the bottom of the table for the first time this season.
