Shetty pulls
Nishit in action against Burnley

Bottom side Burnley were the first club to reach the 2nd Round with a 6 wicket win at Accrington. After a delayed start, Accrington professional Nishit Shetty was the only man in double figures in the home sides 125 all out. Shetty hit nine fours and two sixes in a 123 ball knock of 88 after Accrington had lost Graeme Sneddon to the first ball of the match. Jonathan Clare knocked over the first three wickets at a cost of just three runs, finishing with 3-24 as the batsmen struggled to come to terms with a damp wicket. No such problems for Shetty, who fought off the effects of a gruelling flight home to India to visit his sick father, to pass 500 runs for Accrington in only his fifth innings for the club. James Ormerod was the only player to offer Shetty anything like the support he needed, making 7 from 37 balls in an 8th wicket stand of 31 which ended when Shetty holed out to Clare off Steve Brunt's second delivery. Brunt finished with 2-5, and Jonathan Harvey 2-10 for the visitors. Ben Law (28) got Burnley off to a flier, adding 35 with Vishal Tripathi before falling to Shetty's left arm spin. David Ormerod picked up Clare and Shetty snared his opposite number Harvey to give the home supporters some hope, but Tripathi remained unmoved, hitting seven fours and two sixes before falling in spectacular fashion to Sneddon, who yorked him for 57 with the opener finishing flat out on the ground. Chris Burton (19 not out) and Brunt (10 not out) then quickly wrapped the match up with almost 20 overs to spare.
