Accrington beat Werneth by 3 wickets

Accrington, without a league win in eight matches again provided the major surprise in the Inter League Trophy by beating Werneth to become one of only three Lancashire League clubs to progress to the quarter finals. After posting 307 in the previous round, the home side began ominously with half centuries from Darren Shadford (63), D. Ainsworth (54) and professional Heino Kuhn (61) taking Werneth to 197-1, but Accrington kept the score down to 232-7 with professional Tama Canning taking 3-39 and Zahir Afzal 2-35. A 2nd wicket stand of 77 between Canning (50) and Tariq Hussain (52), promoted to open after languishing in the lower order all season, put Accrington back in the match after Afzal had been dismissed for 29. Graeme Sneddon (21), Stuart Crabtree (19) and Andrew Greenwood, who hit three boundaries and a six in an unbeaten 26 kept pace with the required rate and took Accrington to an unexpected triumph by 3 wickets.

The quarter final draw will be made at Middleton on Friday evening.
