A second 50 of the weekend for Zed
Peter Sleep rolled back the years with a majestic unbeaten 151 in Rishton's 14 run win at Accrington. The veteran Australian stroked 19 boundaries and a six off just 149 balls as Rishton piled up 231-4. Sleep eclipsed Russ Whalley's 142 against Enfield in 1995 as Rishton's highest individual score by an amateur. Kumar Dharmasena chipped in with 33 and opener Asif Muhammed made 19 in an opening stand of 58 with the maestro, but it was Sleep who completely dominated proceedings. Accrington's openers replied with a stand of 139 with Zahir Afzal hitting 70, with nine fours and a six off 73 balls, his second half century of the weekend. Mohsin Ahmed also hit seven fours in his 54 but when he departed ajudged caught behind, Accrington collapsed. Sleep (4-73) and Dharmasena (4-77) both claimed four wickets but more controversy finally sealed the issue when Tama Canning was given run out on 35, with wicketkeeper Mark Young missing the wickets with his first attempt, but on breaking the stumps with his second ark, the umpire raised his finger to send an unhappy Canning back to the pavilion.
