Accrington (10pts) beat Nelson (5pts) by 1 wicket |
Matt Wilson hit a vital 45 |
Accrington's dismal record run of 16 successive defeats ended in spectacular style at Seedhill as Nelson's title challenge took a knock for the second day running. It looked to be the same old story as Accrington chased a target of 185 for that elusive first victory but cometh the hour cometh the man as Tariq Hussain took the match by the scruff of the neck as his side slipped to just 1 wicket from another defeat with 22 runs still needed off 9 balls. The all rounder then hit Nelson's Australian professional Nathan Hauritz for successive sixes to bring the target down to 10 from 7 balls. Hauritz then bowled a no ball which Hussain dispatched for four, followed by another huge six to notch Accrington's first win in 11 months. Hussain's unbeaten 23 came off just 7 balls. Joe Scuderi had earlier top scored with 77 in Nelson's 184-8. Neil Thompson hit 32 and Hauritz 21 with Tama Canning taking 3-34 for the visitors. Mohsin Ahmed (27), Zahir Afzal (25) and Canning (23) got Accrington off to a solid start but it was skipper Matt Wilson who gave the innings a middle order boost with an innings of 45 off 68 balls. Wilson hit two fours and two sixes before becoming one of three victims for Danny Kegg (3-40). Nelson skipper Mike Bradley picked up five victims behind the sticks as wickets tumbled in the chase for runs. The run out of Mick Horsfield and the arrival of last man Damian Clarke set up a memorable ending to a miserable sequence for Accrington.
