Accrington v Colne
Colne had a 12 run win at Accrington. A career best 82 from skipper Dave Swarbrick helped the visitors to 199 after they had slumped to 113-7. Swarbrick hit 12 boundaries in a 124 ball knock. He added a match winning 42 for the last wicket with Chris Whitwell (10 not out) as Colne staged an Australian style lower order fightback. Tama Canning took 4-72, Zahir Afzal 3-60 and Tariq Hussain 3-49 for the home side. Accrington replied well with Afzal (38) and Mohsin Ahmed putting on 75 before Afzal became the first of six wickets for Mahendra Nagamootoo (6-77). John Lambert (3-58) removed Canning (17) but Ahmed reached his half century, passing 500 runs for the season in the process before he was run out in bizarre fashion. A fielder shied at the wicket at the other end attempting to run out Matt Wilson. The ball missed but hit the wicket at the opposite end with the Accrington opener strolling back unaware of the danger that would end his 105 ball vigil during which he hit eight boundaries. An unbeaten 29 from Graeme Sneddon just failed to swing the match in Accrington's favour as the home side were bowled out with 11 balls remaining. |
