Church v Accrington
Church won the local derby with Accrington at West End by 6 wickets in a high scoring game. Tama Canning hit 57 but half of the Accrington side were back in the pavilion with 121 on the board with former Accrington junior Robert Hatch taking 2-33. An 8th wicket stand of 78 between Graeme Sneddon (39) and Nasser Hussain who made a career best 45 took the visitors to a respectable 233-9 with Ruvin Peiris taking 4-78 for Church. Peiris then combined with another ex Accringtonian Adam Greenwood to make the most of perfect batting conditions to post an opening stand of 164. The Sri Lankan made 108 with nine fours and two sixes before he was run out. Greenwood hit seven fours in a 109 ball stay before his was caught by Andy Greenwood off Zahir Afzal for a fine 72. Skipper Phil Sykes then saw his side home with an unbeaten 37 but Accrington will rue the seven dropped catches that cost them dear. |
