Rawtenstall
(12pts) beat Accrington (0pts) by 62 runs |
Rawtenstall's
Keith Roscoe took 5-34 in his sides 62 run win over Accrington
at Bacup Road to move to within 15 wickets of joining an exclusive band
of players to have taken 1,000 Lancashire League wickets. The
home side made 211-9 with professional Andrew Payne top scoring with
64, including nine fours and one six before falling to a superb one
handed catch at point by his opposite number Tama Canning. Daniel Barlow
(29), Richard Wood (25) and Chris Cook-Martin (22) also made useful
contributions against an Accrington side that had to rely an all amateur
attack for all but five overs with professional Canning suffering from
a stomach ailment. Graeme Sneddon took a career best 3-21 before having
to leave the attack due to the age limitation rule but Zahir Afzal (2-63)
and Damian Clarke, who almost doubled his victims for the season in
taking 4-57, had the home side at 195-9 in the 44th over but the visitors
were unable to claim the final wicket. Adam Wilson soon departed after
having hit four and when Canning followed for 7, both men falling to
Rizwan Shafiq, the home side sensed victory. Sneddon made 15 but when
he became Roscoe's first victim, Richard Burrows soon followed lbw without
playing a stroke at Peter Seal and skipper Matt Wilson holed out for
just 1 to leave Accrington on 58-5. Afzal joined opener Mohsin Ahmed
to put on 78 before falling to Roscoe for 44 with the score on 136 and
the tail folded to Payne and Roscoe. Mohsin was last man out after hitting
a fine 68 which included eleven boundaries, the first of which was off
the first ball of the innings.
