Church
(12pts) beat Accrington (0pts) by 69 runs |
Church
moved back to the top of the table after a 69 run win at Accrington.
After losing prolific scoring professional Ruwin Peiris for 3 on a lively
green wicket, skipper Phil Sykes hit 57 to complete the set of half
centuries on every Lancashire League ground in a career that began in
1984. Sam Tucker chipped in with a career best unbeaten 48 after Mark
Aspin (21) had put on 41 with Sykes for the 2nd wicket before becoming
one of five victims for home professional Tama Canning. Church went
on to make 179-9 in 48 overs after rain had halted play. Accrington's
early order then continued its woeful season as both openers were out
in single figures for the third match running. One or more of the home
sides openers has been out for single figures in a 5 match sequence
going back to June 14th. Nick Westwell wreaked havoc taking 7-42 against
one of his former clubs to achieve his best aggregate in a season with
55 wickets with 5 matches still to play. Canning top scored with 30,
Sagawat Hussain made an encouraging 27 and Zahir Afzal hit 26 for Accrington
who were bowled out for 110.
