Todmorden
v Accrington
Closest
finish in an exciting day was at Centre Vale where Todmorden beat
Accrington by just 3 runs. The home side made 184-6 with 32 runs
coming off the last two overs after Stuart Priestley had top scored
with 71, his first half century of the season. It took a 7th wicket
stand of 40 in just 21 balls by skipper Mark Clayton (21 not out) and
Simon Barker (17 not out) to give the score a defendable look after
the visitors had done well to restrict the flow of runs. Damian Clarke
took 3-58 and Len Dewhurst 3-56 for Accrington, who made a decent start
with Adam Barnes opening the innings for the first time with Mohsin
Ahmed. Barnes made 15 and Mohsin 35 with Graeme Sneddon chipping in
with 21 as Accrington closed in on the target. Professional Andre Seymore
passed 50 and victory was looking certain with just six needed off ten
balls with Seymore on strike. After two attempts to repeat an earlier
six over square leg failed, Seymore tried again and was bowled for 72
by Ali who finished his 25 over spell with 5-90. Professional Gyan Pandey
then fired in his quicker ball and removed both Andrew Thompson and
Len Dewhurst first ball in identical fashion. Last man Clarke was then
run out off the fifth ball and Todmorden notched an unlikely win.
