Rishton (12pts) beat Accrington (4pts) by 12 runs

Rishton ended the longest losing run in league history by beating fellow strugglers Accrington in a cracking match at Blackburn Road. This was the day when the home side finally put it all together on the same day to end a run of 15 straight defeats. In spite of losing professional Rob Nicol for 7, Rishton still managed to hit 227-5, their highest score of the season on a baking hot day. Opener Darren Eccles fell to a catch on the boundary just 4 runs short of his maiden league hundred. Eccles put on 75 for the 4th wicket with Shaun Wyse (39) and then Richard Rostron (39 not out) and Phillip Allen (21 not out) added 54 for the 6th wicket. Steve Juliff took 3-52 for Accrington. Andre Seymore began to strike the ball to all parts of the ground but after hitting Scott Greaves for 18 in the 5th over, left armer Colin Sibley had the professional caught behind by Andy Procter for 31. Sibley then dismissed Graeme Sneddon for 15 and Mohsin Ahmed for 24, but Matt Wilson put the visitors back in the game with a sparkling 62 before he was stumped by Procter to give Sibley his first five wicket haul in the Lancashire League. The left armer finished with 7-73 as Accrington were dismissed for 227 with James Hayhurst finishing unbeaten on 29.
