Haslingden
(10pts) beat Accrington (3pts) by 3 wickets on run rate |
Another
record breaking day of high drama ended at 8.20pm with Haslingden
holding on to top spot after a nail biting last over win at Accrington.
Chasing a rain reduced target of 268 to win, Haslingden got home in
the gloom of Thorneyholme Road by 3 wickets with just 3 balls to spare.
The home side began with a club record 1st wicket stand of 181 between
professional Andre Seymore (141) and Mohsin Ahmed (35) as they reached
a club record total in limited overs matches of 272-6. Seymore's century
included 23 boundaries and was the fifth highest score for the club
in league matches and the third highest by an Accrington professional.
The previous best 1st wicket stand was set in 1938 by Jim Bailey (professional)
and Les Pilkington. Jimmy Hayhurst chipped in with an unbeaten 41, another
career best. Openers Graham Knowles and Andrew Smith went early but
professional Ian Austin and Mike Ingham set about chasing the huge target.
Rain reduced the requirement to 268 and this pair put on a 3rd wicket
stand of 163 with Ingham passing the all time record aggregate run total
of Peter Wood when he had made 40. The veteran went on to make 67 with
Austin hitting 16 fours and two sixes in his innings of 110 which was
the first century scored against Accrington by a Haslingden professional.
A swift unbeaten 21 by Stuart Catterall saw the visitors home after
wickets fell in the run chase.
