Accrington
(10pts) beat Bacup (5pts) on run rate |
Most
remarkable win of the day was by lowly Accrington, who beat league
champions Bacup by 1 wicket at Lanehead just as they did three
years ago. Matt O'Connor hit 65 and Paul Gallagher 42 in Bacup's 175-9
with Steve Juliff, playing his first game of the season, taking 3-34,
including the wicket of Bacup professional Shaun Young for 5. James
Hayhurst continued to show what a fine prospect he is by taking 3-35.
The visitors chances of pulling off an unlikely win diminished even
further after just one ball of the innings with professional Andre Seymore
holing out to Matt O'Connor off Young. Abbass Sadiq soon followed, but
Mohsin Ahmed and Matt Wilson hadn't read the script, putting on 117
for the 3rd wicket against a Bacup attack minus the injured David Ormerod.
Mohsin went for 39, but Wilson played a superb innings of 81 with 12
fours and two sixes to put Accrington within reach of a famous win.
After the usual interruptions for rain, Accrington needed 9 to win off
Neal Wilkinson's last over with 1 wicket to fall. Hayhurst took charge
and hit 11 off the over to win the match off the last ball. Young took
6-37 for Bacup who are now in fourth spot after picking up 5 points.
