Church 158-9, Accrington 160-6
Saturday 15th July 2000

An outstanding all round display by New Zealand star Nathan Astle took Accrington to victory at West End on Saturday. The visiting professional took seven Church wickets for 38 runs in a 23 over spell and then made 85 before being controversially given out to a catch by young wicketkeeper Sam Tucker off Philip Gilrane. Craig Fergusson made 40 and Andy Aspin 38 not out in the home sides 158 - 9. Despite losing openers Mohsin Ahmed and Wayne Roberts cheaply, Accrington always looked in the driving seat with Astle at the crease. Tariq Hussain (31 not out) took over after Astle's dismissal and lead his side to a 4 wicket victory. Scorecard
