Bottom club Accrington went down to an eighth successive defeat losing to champions Nelson by 31 runs at Thorneyholme Road. A fine opening spell from Scott Greaves reduced Nelson to 30-3. The medium took 3-12 from 8 overs, picking up Duncan Spencer (8), Paul Garaghty 90) and Colin Heap (10). Sub professional Graham Lloyd (4-65) joined the attack to remove Richard Madden (7), Colin Pemberton (21) and skipper Michael Bradley (25). Martin Whittle sent back Jason Warwick (0), Trevor Kegg (7) and Jason Smith (0) with Lloyd picking up the final wicket of professional Joe Scuderi at 182. The Australian fell attempting to reach his century with a straight six but only succeeded in lofting the ball skywards with LLoyd taking a brilliant catch over his shoulder running back towards the boundary. Scuderi hit nine fours and two sixes in making 94. After losing Billy Rawstron (1) to a run out in the opening over at 4, Whittle and Paul Barratt took the score to 41 before Kegg sent back Whittle for 28. Kegg also removed Barratt (28) at 73 and Russell Edmonds (1) at 85. Scuderi cleaned up Tofeeq Khan (2) at 88 with Kegg (4-69) having Wayne Roberts (1) caught by Spencer at 105. Skipper Brian Holmes joined Lloyd to add 42 for the 7th wicket before falling to Scuderi (4-40) for 21. Lloyd was next to go, caught behind by Bradley off Smith for 57, including eight boundaries. Scuderi then polished off the tail, removing Greaves (1) and Azad Akram (0) as Accrington were bowled out for 151. Len Dewhurst was unbeaten on 1. Nelson's win was the club's eleventh in a row.
