Professional Paul Reiffel took 7-30 to send Haslingden to the top of the table after a 5 wicket win at Accrington. Reiffel picked up opener Russell Edmonds (0) and Tofeeq Khan (2) with the first and last balls of his third over both men caught behind by wicketkeeper Andrew Smith who claimed four catches in the innings. Skipper Mark Aspin (19) fell to the same combination in the Australian's next over. Leg spinner Barry Knowles sent back Martin Whittle (9) and Mark Demaine (16) with Reiffel removing his opposite number Colin Miller (18), Mark Stevenson (0), Wayne Roberts (0) and last man Azad Akram (0). Damian Clarke was run out for 9 and Justin greenwood was unbeaten on 6 when the innings ended on 87 all out after 31 overs. Miller had opener Mike Ingham caught behind by Edmonds without scoring and Damian Clarke, who opened the bowling, removed Graham Knowles (2) to have Haslingden 3-2. Miller took a return catch off Reiffel (10) at 21 but Stuart Taylor and Patrick Lord put on 38 before Lord was run out for 22. Aspin trapped Mark Griffin (5) in front at 77 but Taylor hit an unbeaten 33 with skipper Bob Grimshaw also unbeaten on 2 when the points were secured in the 28th over. The defeat was Accrington's sixth in a row and sent the club to the bottom of the table.
