Accrington won for the first time in nine league and cup matches beating Enfield by 4 wickets at Thorneyholme Road to send their local rivals to the bottom of the table, a place previously occupied by the home side. Professional Colin Miller took 6-49 and Paul Barratt hit a career best 70 to lead Accrington to a third win of the season. Miller and skipper Mark Aspin (2-41) combined to reduce Enfield to 7-3, sending back Scott Parkinson (1), Dean Barker (2) and Mas Ahmed (1) with the help of two catches from wicketkeeper Russell Edmonds. Skipper Andy Barker led Enfield's fightback with an unbeaten 86, including eight fours. Barker put on 41 with Damian Hartley (14), 32 with Neil Holmes (11) and 55 with professional Franklyn Rose (33) for the 6th wicket. After dismissing his opposite number Rose, Miller removed Warren Eastham (0), Zahir Afzal (0) and Andy McMinn (3) with Aspin trapping last man Paul Clarke (1) in front as the last 5 wickets fell for the addition of 25 runs. Rose struck early for Enfield by removing Edmonds without scoring at 1. Barratt, promoted to open the innings, and Aspin put on 66 before the skipper fell to Dean Barker for 27. Miller and Barratt added another 46 before Rose cleaned up his opposite number and Martin Whittle (0) in successive balls. Barratt fell to Dean Barker at 123 after hitting seven fours and a six. Brain Holmes then hit an unbeaten 34 from 24 balls to see Accrington to victory in the 40th over. Holmes added 38 with Tofeeq Khan (4) for the 6th wicket . With the scores level Holmes hit the winning runs with Mark Stevenson unbeaten at the other end.
