Colne v Accrington
Accrington went down to a 110 run defeat at Colne in the penultimate game of the season. The match was a replay of the game the previous week which was rained off with Accrington in a strong position after posting 134-2 (Miller 62 not out, Rawstron 59) and then reducing Colne to 106-8 (Dewhurst 5-39) when the match was abandoned. Accrington professional Colin Miller took 5-33 with his opposite number Scott Williams hitting 54 in Colne's 183-8. Williams then took 5-26 and skipper Gary Hunt 4-6 from 5 overs to bowl Accrington out for 73, Miller hitting 36. Miller removed openers Andy Leah (11) and David Swarbrick (7). Andy Roberts (36) and Williams added 74 for the 3rd wicket before the amateur fell to Damian Clarke. After hitting six fours and a six in his 54, Williams was trapped in front by Miller at 121. Colin Varley hit an unbeaten 32, adding 30 with Paul Wilson (9) who fell to Azad Akram. Miller also picked up Justin Nutter (2) and Andrew Clark (0) with Akram cleaning up Hunt (8). Nigel Rimmer was unbeaten on 1 when the innings closed. Accrington lost Steve Birtwistle at 17 without scoring to Williams. Fellow opener Billy Rawstron (15) followed at the same score, caught by Roberts off Nick Moulding. Russell Edmonds (0) and miller were both caught behind by Leah off Williams at 28 and 62 respectively. One run later Tofeeq Khan (1) fell to Hunt who also picked up skipper Brian Holmes (8) at 71. Williams cleaned up Alistair Cunliffe (0) and Akram (0) without addition and when Tariq Hussain (0) and Clarke (0) fell to Hunt, the last 5 wickets had fallen for the addition of just 2 runs, leaving Len Dewhurst unbeaten on 2.
