Accrington v Burnley
Accrington went down to an eighth successive defeat in all competitions losing at home to Burnley by 2 wickets. Brian Holmes top scored with 61 in Accrington's 159-8, hitting four fours and three sixes in a 33 ball half century. Professional Colin Miller then took 5-59 but Jon Harvey hit 74, including eight fours and two sixes to help Burnley home. Burnley professional Rudra Singh (3-66), Harvey (3-40) and off spinner David Connolly (2-34) reduced the home side to 64-5 with the wickets of Russell Edmonds (5), skipper Mark Aspin (6), Martin Whittle (13), Paul Barratt (6) and Tofeeq Khan (0). Miller hit 30 before falling to Singh with Harvey picking up Holmes and Stefan Heins (2). Mark Stevenson was unbeaten on 9 and Damian Clarke 4 not out when the innings closed on 149-8. A fired up Miller removed both openers, skipper Peter Brown (4) and wicketkeeper Andy McLeod (5) and Ishrat Mehdi (8) with Aspin sending back Singh (1) to have Burnley in trouble at 43-4. Harvey lead the fightback with drives, cuts and pulls, adding 56 for the 5th wicket with Ian Whitehead who fell to Clarke (2-27) at 109. Harvey was trapped in front by Miller at 129 but Michael Brown (12), Khizar Saeed (4), Ben Law (8 not out) and Jamie Brewster (2 not out) fought hard to see Burnley to victory in the 42nd over.
