Burnley v Accrington
An 83 run defeat at Burnley saw bottom club Accrington lose for the ninth game in a row. Azad Akram took a career best 3-63 but the home side piled up 240-7, their highest score of the season. The first wicket fell at 51 with young opener Michael Brown falling to Len Dewhurst for 17 after his opening partner Phil Edmondson had to retire hurt on 12 after being hit on the head. Jon Harvey and professional Rudra Singh both hit half centuries in a 2nd wicket stand of 90. Harvey hit thirteen fours and a six in making 73 to move closer to the 1,000 run mark for the season before falling to Scott Greaves. Andy McLeod hit a rapid 48 and Ishrat Mehdi 7 before both men were dismissed by sub professional Richard Staple, who was now bowling off spin. In between Akram send back Singh for 732, including six fours and a six. Akram also removed Ben Law (3) and Chris Wright (1) as 3 wickets fell for the addition of 1 run at the end of the innings. Billy Rawstron passed 4,000 career runs for Accrington but the opener was first to fall for 11 with 19 on the board when he was caught by 12 year-old sub fielder David Brown off David Hayman. Martin Whittle (22) became Hayman's second and final Lancashire League wicket when he was caught behind by Harvey at 52. Paul Barratt (12) was run out at 76 and 3 runs later Staple fell to Singh for 28. Skipper Brian Holmes (17) and Russell Edmonds put on 30 before Holmes fell to Singh. Tofeeq Khan (6) added another 20 with Edmonds before offering Law a return catch at 129. Edmonds (26 not out) and Roberts (21 not out) added an unbroken 28 as the innings closed on 157-6.
