Accrington suffered a second run rate defeat of the weekend and fifth in succession as Bacup avenged an early season defeat with a 6 wicket win at Lanehead. Accrington lost opener Russell Edmonds (2) to John Nuttall at 2. Skipper Mark Aspin (38) and Tofeeq Khan (22) put on 47 before both fell to Bacup professional Roger Harper (3-41). Accrington professional Colin Miller (2) was well caught by Terry Lord off Harper and Mark Demaine (2) fell to a fine catch on the boundary by Harper off David Ormerod. Martin Whittle hit an unbeaten 28, adding 32 for the 6th wicket with Mark Stevenson (15). Wayne Roberts hadn't faced a ball when the innings closed on 126-6 after 44 overs. Further rain saw Bacup's target reduced to 120 off 42 overs. Azad Akram had Mark Taylor (4) caught by Justin Greenwood and Miller removed opener Peter Killelea (1) to claim his 300th Lancashire League wicket along with Harper (23) and Jimmy Farragher (2) to reduce Bacup to 47-4. Skipper Peter Thompson (41 not out) and Nick Cronshaw (31) rescued the innings with an unbroken 5th wicket stand of 74 to take Bacup to victory with 11 balls to spare.
