Accrington v Rawtenstall
Bottom club Accrington beat struggling Rawtenstall by 3 runs to register a a second win in four matches and a third of the season overall. The defeat was Rawtenstall's eighth in a row. Accrington professional Sherwin Campbell marked his return from injury with a half century. Campbell hit four fours in making 53 before becoming one of six victims for Pat Rush who took a career best 6-47. Martin Whittle made 31, Brian Holmes 22, wicketkeeper Paul Barratt 19 and skipper Mark Aspin 16 in Accrington's 174 all out. Aspin removed opener Glenn Barlow (19) at 44 with off spinner Justin Greenwood having the other opener Steve Tattersall (33) held by Campbell at 80. Greenwood also removed professional Michael Bevan (38) at 115 in what proved to be his final Lancashire League match. Tim Skelton followed next ball to put Greenwood on a hat-trick. Matt Wilson survived to add 43 with Peter Wood but both men fell at 158 with Greenwood picking up the prized wicket of Wood (45) and Aspin cleaning up Wilson (7) to give Accrington a chance of victory. Tight bowling by Aspin and Greenwood restricted Rawtenstall to 171-8 with Aspin removing Rush (1) and Richard Glover (3) to finish with 4-37. Greenwood's fine spell yielded 4-50 from 14 overs.
