Accrington's match with local rivals Rishton at Thorneyholme Road was delicately poised when it was abandoned with the home side 65-5 chasing 115 for victory. Mark Greenhalgh took a career best 4-48 and professional Dipak Patel had made 43 of Accrington's reply. Left armer Steve Juliff struck the first blow when he had David Wells caught behind by Mick Wilson without scoring with 5 on the board. Greenhalgh then knocked over Gareth Wells (3), John Ainscough (1) and professional Steve Elworthy (3) to reduce Rishton to 134-5. Juliff had Jimmy Bibby caught behind by Wilson without scoring as half the side were out for 18. Ian Procter and Graham Bardsley then put on 52 for the 6th wicket until Greenhalgh returned to have Procter caught by Paul Seedle for 35. Patel picked up his first wicket by having Bardsley caught by Morgan Whipp for 22 at 89 and he then had wicketkeeper Andy Procter caught by Bob Collins for 8 at 106. the innings closed on 114-8 after 43 overs with Jon Dobson unbeaten on 14 and John Davies unbeaten on 3. Patel finished with 2-14 from 13 overs, 8 of which were maidens. Neil Barnes fell before a run had been scored for the second match running. Paul Schofield made 8 on his senior debut, adding 41 with Patel before becoming Elworthy's second victim. Collins also fell to the Rishton professional and one run later Patel was trapped in front by his opposite number for 43. Seedle was caught by Davies off Wayne Roberts for 1 at 61 but 4 runs later rain forced the match to be abandoned with Whipp on 4 and Greenhalgh on 1. Elworthy took 4-22 for Rishton. Accrington stay in 8th place in the table with 14 points from eight games after four games were abandoned. Scorecard
