Accrington won on the road for the first time this season beating local rivals Rishton by 5 wickets in a rain reduced game at Blackburn Road. Mark Greenhalgh took a career best 3-22 to help restrict Rishton to 126-8 and then Neil Barnes top scored with 49 to help Accrington to victory after 33 overs. Steve Juliff removed Rishton opener Martin Collinson without scoring at 4. Greenhalgh then had David Wells caught by Paul Seedle for 5 with 6 on the board. Greenhalgh cleaned up Rishton professional Steve Elworthy (12) at 21 and then sent back Eric Kinder (2) at 26. Jimmy Bibby (28) and John Ainscough (24) put on 43 for the 5th wicket before Bibby was caught by Paul Barratt off Seedle. Martin Whittle had Ainscough caught behind by Mick Wilson at 91. Jon Dobson (16) was cleaned up by Whittle and Graham Bardsley (3) was run out at 106. Ian Procter (8 not out) and Ian Whalley (12 not out) took the score to 126-8 when the innings closed after 41 overs. Accrington openers Barnes and Bob Collins put on 82 before Collins was caught by Elworthy off Whalley for 36. Morgan Whipp was run out for 17 at 111. Accrington professional Dipak Patel was trapped in front by his opposite number for 11, Barratt fell to Bibby and Barnes was run out one short of his half century with all three wickets falling at 125. Seedle hit the match winning boundary to end proceedings in the 33rd over. The win took Accrington up to 9th place in the table. Scorecard
