Accrington beat newly crowned champions Ramsbottom by 51 runs at Thorneyholme Road to end the season with a fine victory. Sub professional Robert Haynes set up the win on his return to Accrington with a half century and 4 wickets with Bob Collins also hitting a career best 68 in the home sides 203-7. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Accrington captain Nick Marsh was first to go caught behind by his opposite number Jack Simpson off Mick Mills for 7 with the total on 21. Collins and Paul Barratt then put on 104 before Collins was caught behind by Simpson off Ramsbottom professional Keith Arthurton for 68, including six fours from 99 balls. One run later Barratt was caught by Mark Gowers off Arthurton for 39. Mark Demaine was trapped in front by Jon Fielding at 131 but Haynes and Martin Whittle took the score to 199 when Haynes was caught by Steve Dearden off Arthurton (4-61) for 53, made from just 30 balls with five fours and three sixes. One run later Whittle was bowled by Arthurton for 18 and Mark Greenhalgh was caught by Ian Bell off Nick Riley for 1. Neil Barnes (2 not out) and Mick Wilson (1 not out) took 3 runs off Riley's final over as Accrington closed on 203-7. Ramsbottom never got to grips with the run chase, losing opener Steve Ratcliffe (1) to Haynes at 1 and Gowers (0) to Greenhalgh at 14. Dearden (15) put on 22 with Arthurton before being trapped in front by Haynes and Brian Taylor (10) was caught by Collins off Juliff at 71 but no other batsman got into double figures apart from Arthurton. The Ramsbottom professional batted through the innings for an unbeaten 85, including six fours and three sixes, made from 125 balls to set a new club batting record of 1185 runs for the season. Steve hall was run out for 9, Bell was caught by Damian Clarke off Haynes for 9, Fielding run out for 2, Simpson caught behind by Wilson off Haynes for 3, Riley bowled by Juliff for 3 and Mills run out for 3 in Ramsbottom's 152 all out.
