Enfield 146-9, Accrington 123
Accrington went down to a 23 run defeat in the local derby at Enfield. Skipper Nick Marsh carried his bat for an unbeaten 58 but only two other players made double figures after professional Dipak Patel had taken 5-45 and Damian Clarke 4-44 in Enfield's 146-9. Openers Mushtaq Ahmed and skipper Andy Barker got the home side off to a good start with a stand of 55 before Mushtaq gave Patel a return catch after making 30. Patel then removed Barker brothers Gary (5) at 83 and Andy (48) at 96. One run later Mas Ahmed was caught by Neil Barnes off Clarke without scoring. Russell Whalley was trapped in front by Patel at 99 also without scoring. Enfield sub professional Robert Haynes made 26 before being held by Clarke off Patel at 118. Four runs later Scott Parkinson (2) fell to Clarke who also picked up Maz Khan (6) at 139 and Jon Longden (14) at 140. Lee Dobson (4 not out) and wicketkeeper John Cahill (2 not out) saw Enfield to 146-9 at the end of their 46 overs. With former Accrington man Haynes (4-39) and Khan (a career best 4-44) taking four wickets apiece, Marsh fought an almost lone battle as wickets tumbled around him. After Barnes (2) fell to Dobson at 2, Marsh added 36 with Patel (14) and 41 with Paul Barratt (12) in the only stands of note in the innings. Martin Whittle (1), Morgan Whipp (9), Mark Greenhalgh (1),Steve Juliff (8), Mick Wilson (1), Clarke (1) and Justin Greenwood (0) all came and went to leave Marsh high and dry after 43.2 over when Accrington were dismissed for 123. Marsh hit seven furs in his 114 ball innings which lasted 140 minutes. Accrington drop down to 11th place with 31 points from 20 games..
