Accrington's first home game of the season ended with a 7 wicket win in a rain shortened match against Burnley. Martin Whittle took 4-36 to help restrict Burnley to 109-8 from 41 overs. Bob Collins top scored with 41 as Accrington got home in the 34th over. Footballer Leighton James was run out for 7 with 16 on the board. Home professional Dipak Patel joined the attack in the 19th over, picking up Duncan Spencer (23) at 52 in the 23rd over. Opener Trevor Pickup was next to go caught by Patel off Whittle for 26 with the score on 60. Professional Sam Skeete was caught second ball by Damian Clarke off Whittle after hitting his first ball for 6. Mark Harvey (9) also fell to the Patel-Whittle combo at 74 as did skipper Roger Law (11) at 93. Patel trapped wicketkeeper Andy McLeod (1) in front with 76 on the board. Chris Wright was run out for 9 at 98 with Neil Anderson (17 not out) and Bob Whitaker (1 not out ) adding 11 for the 9th wicket. Skeete trapped opener Graham Beech in front without scoring at 4 in what was to be the record breaking opener's last game in the Lancashire League. Skipper Nick Marsh (37) and Collins put on 72 for the 2nd wicket before Collins was run out at 72. Marsh fell to Wright at 101 leaving Patel (24 not out) and Paul Barratt (3 not out) to take Accrington to victory. Scorecard
