A career best bowling performance of 6-48 by Mark Greenhalgh helped Accrington get back to winning ways after three successive defeats with a 3 wicket win in a low scoring match at Bacup. The home side lost their first wicket at 28 after electing to bat when Mark Taylor was run out for 10. Opener Nick Cronshaw was next to go when he edged Greenhalgh behind to wicketkeeper Paul Barratt for 31 with the score on 59. One run later skipper Peter Thompson (1) was trapped in front by Accrington professional Dipak Patel. Greenhalgh had Richard Swift caught by at slip by Neil Barnes without scoring after the addition of another single. John Chapman added 7 with professional Roger Harper before falling to Patel. Terry Lord (13) counter attacked with a four and a six off Greenhalgh's 12th over but the paceman had his revenge in his next over when Bob Collins took a fine diving catch after Barratt was unable to hold a top edge with the score on 81. Peter Cook was cleaned up by Greenhalgh three balls later without scoring. Harper's long resistance ended in the 27th over when he too was bowled by Greenhalgh for 25 at 83. Patel tapped John Nuttall in front for 2 at 89 and ten runs later Greenhalgh wrapped up the innings by having David Ormerod caught at slip by Morgan Whipp for 5 leaving Neal Wilkinson unbeaten on 0. Patel picked up 3-18 from 15 overs. Cook removed openers Neil Barnes (7) at 11 and skipper Nick Marsh (5) at 16. Patel made 15 before holing out to Ormerod off Nuttall at 36 and one run later Bob Collins 93) fell in identical fashion. Barratt and Whipp put on a vital 26 before Ormerod took his third catch of the innings at the second attempt this time off Swift to end the innings of Whipp for 6. Swift also removed Barratt for 17 with Cronshaw taking the catch but Martin Whittle hit an unbeaten 23 to see Accrington to victory in the 36th over for the further loss of Greenhalgh (6) at 79. Mark Demaine made an unbeaten 9 in an unbroken 8th wicket stand of 23 with Whittle. Accrington move up to 8th place at the halfway point in the season with 25 points from 13 games. Scorecard
