Shane Warne recorded his best ever Lancashire League bowling figures in his penultimate match before leaving for the Australian B tour of Zimbabwe but Accrington still slipped to a 40 run defeat at Lowerhouse. Warne took 6-27 from 19 overs with 9 maidens but the home side still totalled 205-9. A 3rd wicket stand of 98 between sub professional Dave Callaghan (30) and Chris Bleazard got Lowerhouse out of trouble after both openers had fallen for ducks. Bleazard went on to hit 75 with veteran Brian Higgin chipping in with a late 33 after Warne had run through the middle order. Billy Rawstron (43) and Neil Barnes (24) got Accrington off to a good start in reply with an opening stand of 69 but after Ryan Hesketh had removed Rawstron and Mark Demaine (6), James Capstick took 4-26, including Warne for 18, to turn the match the home sides way.
