Shane Warne hit his maiden Lancashire League half century for Accrington as his side chased leaders Haslingden's 166 all out at Bentgate. The Australian had earlier taken 5-50 with Neil Holmes picking up 3-37 to give Accrington their 5th bonus point of the season. Warne dismissed Haslingden's top three Mike Ingham (15), John Entwistle (22) and ex Accrington paid man Rod Tucker (34) and then Holmes got amongst the wickets to reduce Haslingden to 110-6. Skipper Bob Grimshaw (29) and Neil Grindrod (21) then added 54 for the 7th wicket but Accrington then knocked over Haslingden's last 4 wickets with the help of a couple of run outs for the addition of just 2 runs. Tucker dismissed openers Billy Rawstron (11) and Nick Marsh (18) but Warne hit four boundaries and two sixes in a 64 ball innings of 51 that ended when Alan Barnes had him caught by Entwistle. Tucker (3-43), Barnes (3-38) and Mick Tracey (2-42) all combined to restrict Accrington to 142 and earn Haslingden a vital bonus point. Scorecard
