Accrington won for the second time this season, beating local rivals Enfield by 2 wickets at Thorneyholme Road with just 2 balls to spare. Ian Birtwistle took 4-45 from 17 overs with professional Shane Warne taking 2-36 from 16 overs. Gary Barker top scored with 35, professional Linden Joseph hit 27 and Maz Iqbal 22 in Enfield's 138-9. Rain reduced Accrington's target to 109 from 36 overs. Openers Warne and Nick Marsh added 26 for the 1st wicket when the amateur was run out. Warne went on to make his best score of the season to date before being caught behind by John Cahill off Paul Houldsworth for 39. Houldsworth also removed skipper Billy Rawstron (4), who was captaining the side after Andy Barker broke his jaw in practice during the week, in picking up 2-24. Joseph conceded just 34 from 18 overs, picking up the wickets of Paul Barratt (1) and Neil Barnes (1). Richard Shovelton also got amongst the wickets picking up Mark Demaine (12), Martin Whittle (8) and Mark Greenhalgh (5) at a cost of 34 runs to send the home side seemingly sliding towards a tenth defeat at 86-8. It was left to tailenders Neil Holmes and Steve Juliff to rescue a lost cause with a match winning 9th wicket stand of 24. Going into the final over bowled by Shovelton, 10 runs were needed. Four were scored off the first three balls and then Holmes smashed the 4th ball for six to win the match for the home side. Holmes finished unbeaten on 19. Scorecard
