Accrington slipped to a second successive defeat losing at Rishton by 8 wickets. After the loss of Nick Marsh (7) to John Davies at 29, skipper Andy Barker and Jim Stevenson put on 83 for the 2nd wicket. Graham Bardsley trapped Barker in front for 62, made from 97 balls and containing seven fours and two successive sixes. Professional Robert Haynes made 19 before falling to Robbie Walsh who also removed John Seedle (1). Rishton professional Peter Sleep had Mark Demaine taken by Phil Sykes for 13 and Stevenson's innings ended two runs short of his first senior Lancashire League half century when he was run out after a mix up with Mark Greenhalgh at 171. Greenhalgh (4 not out) and Neil Barnes (6 not out) chipped in at the end as Accrington finished on 180-6. After opener David Wilson had retired hurt for 6, skipper David Wells and Jimmy Bibby took the score to 58 when Bibby was run out by Seedle for 14. Wells and Sleep put on 82 before the Rishton skipper was trapped in front by Juliff for 61, made from 81 balls with six fours and a six. Sleep hit two sixes and nine fours, hitting three in succession to win the game in making an unbeaten 76 from 65 balls with Russell Whalley also unbeaten on 16 when victory was completed after 41 overs.
