A 7 wicket win at West End saw Accrington complete the double over local rivals Church. Professional Robert Haynes (4-41) and veteran Ian Birtwistle (4-51) took 4 wickets apiece to help restrict Church to 145-9. The home side made a solid start with openers professional Geoff Parker and skipper Steve Metcalf putting on 51. Haynes broke the stand by having his opposite number caught behind by Billy Rawstron for 28. Three runs later Dave Gilrane was run out for 3. Birtwistle then had Metcalf taken by Martin Whittle for 39 with the score on 90. Gerard Metcalf went on to hit an unbeaten 50 from 67 balls, including two fours and two sixes at 54 but Haynes and Birtwistle chipped away at the rest of the batsmen, dismissing David Catlow (0), Alec Holt (9), Ian Osborne (2), Simon Hargreaves (0), Russell Keighley (3) and Nick Bentley (1). Openers skipper Andy Barker (41) and Nick Marsh (41) put on 71, Neil Barnes (11) fell at 100 with Rawstron (18 not out) and Haynes (30 not out) putting on an unbroken 51 to see Accrington home in the 39th over with a 7 wicket victory.
