A fine all round performance by professional Robert Haynes helped Accrington to an 8 wicket victory over local rivals Church at Thorneyholme Road. Haynes took 5-77 from an unbroken 23 over spell to help restrict Church to 157-8 and he then hit an unbeaten 66 to see the home side to victory with more than 10 overs to spare. The West Indian struck with the second ball of the match dismissing Ian Osborne without scoring. Mark Greenhalgh sent back Ken Fergusson (7) at 44 and professional Geoff Parker (58 from 78 balls with six fours and a six) at 81. Ian Birtwistle removed Gerard Metcalf (15) at 111 with Haynes sending back skipper Steve Metcalf (28) without addition and Dave Gilrane (7), Tommy George (11) and Stuart Smith (0) at 129. Alan Rawcliffe hit an unbeaten 19 to help Church close on 157-8. Home openers Nick Marsh and skipper Andy Barker put on 35 before Marsh was caught behind by Russell Keighley off David Ainsworth for 11. Barker and Haynes took the score to 112 when the amateur was run out for 38, leaving Trevor Hatch to help his professional see Accrington to an easy win with an unbeaten 29. Haynes hit seven fours and a six from 59 balls in his unbeaten 66, passing 1,000 Lancashire League runs during his innings. The win took Accrington up one place to third in the table. Scorecard
