Accrington went down to a second successive 3 wicket defeat this time at Rishton. Home professional Wayne Daniel took 6-66 in Accrington's 156 all out and then John Ainscough hit a match winning unbeaten 55 after Rishton had struggled to 118-7. Daniel struck in his first over having Andy Barker caught by skipper David Wells at slip without scoring off a ball that reared up. Professional Robert Haynes put on 38 with Nick Marsh before being trapped in front by his opposite number for 21. Graham Bardsley removed Billy Rawstron for 11 at 73 and Daniel cleaned up Paul Barratt (4) four runs later. Marsh's 89 ball innings ended when he was bowled by Bardsley for 45 with 101 on the board. Daniel also accounted for Mark Demaine (24), Trevor Hatch (4) and Martin Whittle (0) but skipper David Lloyd stood firm with an unbeaten 27 with Neil Barnes (7) falling to Bardsley and Robbie Walsh cleaning up Neil Holmes (0) to polish off the tail. Haynes removed Wells without scoring but Phil Sykes (30) joined Craig Smith to take the score to 49 before Smith gave Haynes a juggling return catch after making 24. Holmes removed Russ Whalley (2) at 56 and Sykes at 63. Keith Topham joined Ainscough taking the score to 104 before being run out. Two runs later Daniel fell to Haynes and Graham Thomson (1) became the second run out victim this time to a direct hit by Barker to leave Rishton struggling on 118-7. Ainscough and Bardsley then saw Rishton home with 5 balls to spare with Ainscough making an unbeaten 55 from 83 balls with six fours and a six and Bardsley an unbeaten 13. Scorecard
