A brilliant unbeaten 122 by Peter Wood set up a 36 run win for Rawtenstall over Accrington at Bacup Road. Wood hit seventeen fours and two sixes from the 138 balls that he faced in helping Rawtenstall pile up 214-5. Wood lost Brian Payne (16) to Accrington professional Robert Haynes at 29. Ian Birtwistle removed John Kershaw (31) at 113 and both Glenn Barlow (38) and professional Anthony Johnson (0) at 200. Andy Payne made 2 on his Lancashire League debut before being run out in the last over of the innings. Birtwistle finished with 3-78 from 15 overs. Accrington lost Nick Marsh to Bob Holmes for 9 with the score on 37 in the 10th over. Andy Barker and Haynes both made half centuries in adding 70 for the 2nd wicket. Haynes hit 52 from 63 balls with six fours and a six before falling to Keith Roscoe (3-58). Billy Rawstron (3) was Roscoe's next victim at 128. Nine runs later Barker was bowled by Johnson for 64, including ten fours made from 104 balls. Johnson then removed Trevor Hatch without scoring at 141 before Roscoe had Mark Greenhalgh (8) caught at extra cover by Brian Terry at 164. Brett Storey trapped David Parsons for 10 at 177 and the innings closed on 178-7 with skipper David Lloyd unbeaten on 21. Accrington dropped down one place to third 14 points behind leaders Haslingden. Scorecard
