Joint league leaders Accrington completed the double over Lowerhouse by securing a 6 wicket win at Thorneyholme Road. Home professional Robert Haynes removed Stan Heaton who was caught at second slip by skipper David Lloyd for 12 with the score on 21. Ian Birtwistle, who opened the bowling in place of Neil Holmes who missed the first hour of the match due to work commitments, then had Brian Higgin caught by Andy Barker for 18 at 40. Phil Astin fell to n David Lloyd for 24 after adding 63 with professional Manzoor Elahi. The Pakistani put on 48 with Pankaj Tripathi before being stumped by Billy Rawstron off Haynes for 74 to give his opposite number his 50th league wicket of the season. Elahi hit seven fours and a six from 81 balls. Tripathi finished unbeaten on 52 with seven fours after Holmes had dismissed Craig Heaton for 8. Brian Holmes was also unbeaten on 3 when the visitors closed on 196-5. Accrington lost Nick Marsh to Elahi for 1 with the total on 8 but Barker and Haynes took the score to 52 when Haynes was caught by Jez Hope at mid wicket off Alan Holden for 19. Barker and Rawstron came together to add 50 before Barker fell to Elahi (3-87) for an 83 ball innings of 58 which included six boundaries. Rawstron lost Mark Demaine to Elahi for 9 at 136 but Lloyd joined the wicketkeeper in a match winning unbroken stand of 64 to see Accrington home with 7 balls to spare. Rawstron hit five fours in making an unbeaten 71 from 81 balls and Lloyd was unbeaten on 28 but Accrington dropped down to second place after East Lancs took maximum points by beating Bacup.
