A 7 run win at East Lancs saw league leaders Accrington chalk up a third successive victory. Professional Robert Haynes took 6-79 to restrict the home side to 157-9 after Accrington had made 164-6. Openers Nick Marsh (18) and Andy Barker (35) put on 57 before Ian Haworth had Marsh caught by Nick Westhead. Barker was run out four runs later and Haynes was bowled by Stuart Clemson at 65. Clemson also cleaned up Neil Barnes for 4 at 84 but Billy Rawstron joined skipper David Lloyd to add 52 for the 5th wicket before falling to East Lancs professional Paul Reiffel for 32. Lloyd fell to Haworth off the penultimate ball of the innings for 45. Haynes removed David Pearson for 20 with the score on 28 and Clemson for 9 at 33. One run later the West Indian struck again to remove Mark Lomas without scoring to have the home side struggling on 34-3. Skipper Andy Compton and Westhead fought back with a century stand to put East Lancs on top with seven overs to go. Lloyd again put his stamp on the match by having Compton stumped by Rawstron for a fine 51, made from 96 balls and including seven boundaries. Eight runs later Haynes had Westhead caught by Lloyd for 48. With the overs running out wickets began to tumble, Rawstron picking up three successive stumpings, two off Haynes and one off Lloyd to dismiss Andy Pratt, Darryl Redhead and Reiffel all without scoring as 4 wickets fell for the addition of just 2 runs. Lloyd also accounted for Paul Greenwood. Phil Mooney finished unbeaten on 17 with just 4 runs coming off Haynes' final over with 12 needed for victory. Scorecard
