Accrington captain David Lloyd hit the winning runs for his team in his final match for the club before retiring as his side clinched the Holland Cup as league runners up by notching a 4 wicket win at the Horsfield against Colne. Lloyd made a surprise return to the team just two weeks after knee surgery. The home sides professional Dave Rundle hit 59 with good support from opener Paul Simmonite (47) and Geoff Fryers (32) in Colne's 176-6 from their 46 overs. Dave Parsons was Accrington's best bowler with 3-47, professional Robert Haynes took 1-53 and the skipper Lloyd picked up his final Lancashire League scalp when he had Fryers caught by Ian Birtwistle. Accrington openers Nick Marsh (35) and Andy Barker (21) put on 50 before Barker fell to Kevin Cullen. Billy Rawstron made 29 and Haynes 27 as the visitors edged closer to their target. Former skipper Trevor Hatch hit 23 before he fell to Trevor Kegg to bring in David Lloyd with Accrington needing 8 for victory. Fittingly it was the skipper himself who helped himself to two boundaries to bring victory for Accrington in the penultimate over. Scorecard
