Accrington won their first home match of the season to notch up a second successive victory under new captain David Lloyd beating Rawtenstall by 27 runs. Home openers Graham Beech and Nick Marsh put on 28 before the left handed Marsh fell for 15 to visiting professional David Norman. Accrington professional Rod Tucker joined Beech and the pair put on 42 for the second wicket before the Australian was stumped by Peter Barnes off Keith Roscoe (1-19) for 21. Beech was next to go six runs later, also stumped by Barnes this time off Bob Holmes for a 76 ball innings of 29 containing four fours. Andy Barker (3) and Paul Barratt (0) also fell to Holmes (3-45) and Brett Storey picked up skipper Lloyd for 21 with 117 on the board. Neil Barnes had made 4 when he was cleaned up by Norman but Billy Rawstron and Martin Whittle (16 not out) put on a vital unbroken 8th wicket stand of 31 for take Accrington to 157-7 at the end of 46 overs. Rawstron hit two fours, four twos and a three in making an unbeaten 36 from 31 balls in what turned out to be the top score of the match. Tucker then accounted for openers Glen Barlow (0) and Phillip Pickles (16) with Lloyd snapping up Norman (0) and Peter Wood (11). When Tucker sent back John Kershaw (16) to have half the side out for 70. Lloyd struck again to remove Mark Griffin for 22 without addition and when and Brian Terry (1) was trapped in front by Tucker Rawtenstall were in trouble at 74-7. Holmes (28) and Storey (27) gave the visitors some hope with an 8th wicket stand of 45 before Holmes fell to Tucker. Lloyd removed Storey at 127 and Roscoe was run out for 2 at 130 with 11 balls remaining. Tucker finished with 5-54 and Lloyd took 4-56. Scorecard
