For the second match running Accrington were on the receiving end of an outstanding performance by the opposition professional. This time it was Church professional Peter Taylor who proved to be the match winner in making 77 out of his sides 207-6 and then taking 5-15 from 14 overs to dismiss Accrington for 75. After openers Roger Watson (7) and Ken Fergusson (16) put on 27, the home side lost 3 wickets for 6 runs with Accrington professional Rod Tuckers ending back Watson and Martin Whittle accounting for Fergusson and Gerard Metcalf (5). Steve Metcalf (14) helped Taylor take the score to 76 before becoming one of three wickets for Glyn Davies (3-59). Ian Osborne then made 40 in helping Taylor add 92 for the 5th wicket before falling to Davies. One run later Taylor also fell to Davies after hitting eleven fours in a 96 ball innings of 77, his best league score to date. Tommy George and Simon Hargreaves added an unbroken 38 for the 7th wicket to help Church close on 207-6. David Ainsworth removed Nick Marsh (8) but then Taylor took over sending back Jim Stevenson (19), Tucker (15), Neil Barnes (8), Andy Gardener (0) and Whittle (1). Nick Westwell sent back Paul Barratt for 11 and Billy Rawstron was run out without scoring. Watson (2-0) polished off the tail, dismissing Davies (4) and Ian Birtwistle (0) to leave Trevor Hatch stranded on 7. Accrington stayed in third place after this defeat. Scorecard
