Accrington Cricket Club

Rishton 92-0, Accrington 91
30th May 1987

A large crowd at Rishton were left disappointed when the home side cruised to a 10 wicket win over Accrington meaning that Viv Richards didn't get the chance to entertain an expectant audience. The visitors got off to a bad start and things didn't improve with Colin Kuhn (6-37) and Richards (4-31) bowling Accrington out for 91 in 40 overs. Kuhn struck first with the final ball of his opening over which was edged behind by Nick Marsh to wicketkeeper Graham Thomson. Graham Beech's 25 ball knock was ended by Kuhn at 3 when the medium pacer struck timber. Billy Rawstron made 20 before falling to the Thomson-Kuhn partnership at 32. Professional Bharathi Arun struggled, making 8 in 23 balls before being caught by Keith Topham off Kuhn. Richards dismissal of Paul Barratt (1) at 41 meant that half the side were out. Andy Gardener and Neil Jones then put on 28, Accrington's best stand of the innings. The Thomson-Kuhn axis struck again when Jones fell for 9. Kuhn then cleaned up Trevor Hatch for 2 to claim his 6th wicket. Richards clean bowled Gardener for a fighting 33, made from 66 balls and containing four boundaries and then wrapped up the innings by dismissing skipper Alan Worsick (4) and Tony Gallagher (3) with the assistance of Thomson who finished with six victims. It took David Ainscough and David Wilson just 16.1 overs to hammer some pretty average bowling to all parts and finish the contest by 5.19pm. Ainscough hit a fine unbeaten 55 from 53 balls with Wilson's 31 taking 7 balls less to complete an early season league and cup treble for the home side over Accrington. Scorecard
