Ramsbottom 112-3, Accrington 111
27th June 1987

Accrington's away day curse struck again as the club went down to a 7 wicket defeat at Ramsbottom to make it no wins from five road trips. It was the medium pace of Nick Riley (4-18) and Steve Ratcliffe (3-19) that did the damage as the visitors were bowled out for 111. Professional Bharathi Arun top scored with 28, Billy Rawstron made 24 and Andy Gardener another fighting knock of 13 but no other player made double figures. The in-form Nick Marsh was first to go caught by Ian Bell off Mark Stewart for 2. Fellow opener Graham Beech (3) was run out at 15 and then Rawstron and Gardener put on 33 before the wicketkeeper fell to Ratcliffe. Home professional Andrew Zesers sent back Gardener with Riley striking for the first time at 83 to have Arun caught by Steve Ashworth. Riley also accounted for Paul Barratt (8), Trevor Hatch (5) and Mark Demaine (0) with Ratcliffe wrapping up the innings by sending back Martin Whittle (5) and Ian Birtwistle (4) both with the help of wicketkeeper Jack Simpson. Ashworth then hit an unbeaten 40 with four fours, adding 51 with Simpson (37) after stand-in skipper Hatch had dismissed Bell (9) and Richard Heaton (19) had been run out. Scorecard
