Accrington 172-4, Ramsbottom 95 A 3rd wicket stand of 127 between sub professional Ian Austin and Graham Beech and a seven wicket haul by David Lloyd helped Accrington to a 77 run win over Ramsbottom at Thorneyholme Road. After Ramsbottom professional Ijaz Faqih (4-76) had removed openers Neil Barnes (0) at 2 and Nick Marsh (8) at 33, Austin and Beech built a match winning partnership. Austin hit six fours and a six from 139 balls, falling one run short of a well deserved century whilst Beech made an unbeaten 50, including four fours from 80 balls to help the home side to 172-4. Ramsbottom openers Steve Ashworth and Ian Bell put on 37 before Bell was bowled by Lloyd for 14. Lloyd struck again at 53, having Jack Simpson caught by Martin Whittle for 3. One run later Austin held a return catch to send back Ashworth for 33. Steve Hall was run out for 2 and Richard Heaton fell to Lloyd for 3. Austin had John Ramsbottom (1) held by Andy Gardener at 87 and 1 run later Lloyd had Faqih stumped by Rawstron for 28. Lloyd then polished off the tail having Steve Ratcliffe (5) caught by Austin and both Mark Stewart and Brian Fielding stumped by Rawston without scoring to finish with 7-28. Lloyd's figures were the best of the season by an amateur and earned the former Lancashire captain a Telegraph Tankard. Scorecard If you have any memories of 1987 please email Nigel Stockley
