Accrington 156-8, Haslingden 194-4

Title chasing Haslingden inflicted a third home defeat of the season on Accrington, leaving Thorneyholme Road with a 38 run win. Openers Bryan Knowles and professional Eddo Brandes put on 52 before Ian Birtwistle removed them both. Brandes left at 52 after having made 34 and skiper Knowles chipped a return catch at 78 after hitting 20 from 77 balls. Mike Ingham hit an unbeaten 58 from 72 balls with five fours and a six, adding 76 with Bob Collins (39) for the 3rd wicket. Mick Tracey's promotion up the order was short lived but Paul Blackledge hit an unbeaten 20 in an unbroken 5th wicket stand of 37 with Ingham as the visitors closed on 194-4. Neil Barnes hit his second successive half century at the top of the order but Accrington fell well sort on 156-8 thanks to tight bowling by John Sudworth (3-44), Brandes (2-35), Alan Barnes (2-38) and Tracey. Accrington's openers had put on 49 when Barnes had Nick Marsh caught by Tracey for 17 to claim his 200th Lancashire League victim. Billy Rawstron (0) and Andy Gardener (5) both fell to Sudworth who also dismissed Accrington professional Bharathi Arun for 23 with the score on 94. Neil Barnes 100 ball innings ended for 56 when he was bowled by Brandes at 127. Graham Beech hit an unbeaten 13 from 47 balls from number six as skipper Alan Worsick (7), Trevor Hatch (7) and Mark Demaine (3) all fell chasing a lost cause. Scorecard
