Accrington 171-2, East Lancs 167-5 Accrington romped to an 8 wicket win over winless East Lancs to record a third win of the season, all of which had come at Thorneyholme Road. The visitors made 167-5 with opener Craig Smith hitting an unbeaten 91 with six fours, one six, a five and five threes from 132 balls. Accrington professional Bharathi Arun (2-65) removed opener David Pearson without scoring at 8 and sub professional John Abrahams (10) at 27. Wayne Cooper (12) added 46 with Smith for the 3rd wicket before falling to Ian Birtwistle and Phil Mooney (21) had put on 41 with the opener when he was bowled by Accrington skipper Alan Worsick. Nick Westhead made 15 before being snapped up by Billy Rawstron behind the wicket off Worsick leaving Mark Lomas (1 not out) to face a couple of balls as Smith let loose with sixteen consecutive scoring strokes at the end of the innings. Accrington's number two also top scored with Nick Marsh dominating the home sides reply with a match winning innings of 85. Such was Marsh's domination of an opening stand with Graham Beech that Accrington's record breaking batsman made just 13 out of the 70 runs scored before Ian Haworth broke the partnership. Marsh finally fell at 129 bowled by Howard Bowling after hitting thirteen fours and a six from the 107 balls that he faced. Rawstron and Arun then saw Accrington home with the amateur hitting an unbeaten 43 from 85 balls with seven fours and Arun needing just 15 balls to hit an unbeaten 23 as the home side won with three overs to spare.
