Todmorden completed the double over their Telegraph Cup Final opponents Accrington with a 47 run win at Centre Vale. Professional Darryl Scott again proved to be the thorn in Accrington's side this time with the bat, making 95 from 72 balls. the Australian's innings included fifteen fours and two sixes before he fell to Mark Aspin. Openers Albert Ross (26) and John Brierley (14) put on 48 before sub professional Jack Simmons had Brierley caught behind by Billy Rawstron. Ross followed without addition to David Lloyd and then Scott and Ian Smith (5, passing 6,000 Lancashire League runs) put on 51 for the 3rd wicket with the professional making the lion's share of the runs. David Whitehead then helped his professional add 86 for the 4th wicket, making an unbeaten 31 to help the home side to 197-4. Medium pacer John Townend again struck early, sending back opener Andy Stevenson (2) and Graham Lloyd (0) at 2. Simmons added 54 with Rawstron before falling to Ibrar Ali 28. Mick Hartley trapped Neil Jones in front without scoring 2 runs later. David Lloyd (14) put on 25 with Rawstron before hitting a return catch to Ali. Skipper Trevor Hatch made twelve of the fourteen runs he made with Rawstron before becoming Hartley's second victim and then the opener was bowled by Ali (3-36) after batting 126 minutes for 39. Tailenders Mark Aspin (28 not out) and Paul Barratt (20) put together the best stand of the innings adding 45 for the 8th wicket to take Accrington to 150-8 at the close.
